They will begin at 2 PM and often continue until 4:30 or later so feel free to come anytime during the afternoon to join the discussion. Please contact Kathryn at payette1@cableone.net if you would like more information. We try to discuss and apply lessons to our lives. There are no restrictions as to subject, political views, spiritual views or type of fiction or nonfiction. Schedule:
Book suggestions: The Dovekeepers recommended by Charlene – waiting for paperback to come out. Abide With Me by Elizabeth Strout recommended by Kathryn. Selection to read for December meeting The Heart of a Woman by Maya Angelou recommended by Sharron Kipling to read for January meeting
The book club meeting will be moved the month of January only to the church Fireside Room. I will have coffee and tea ready and Macy will be providing the refreshments this month.
We will be discussing Abide With Me. Reaction to this pastor and the actions and attitudes of him, his wife, daughter and parishioners should make for interesting review.
The book we will read for this next month was suggested by Sharron Kipling and is The Heart of A Woman by Maya Angelou. I can order it from Barnes and Noble for those who request it. It will be 12.99 less my BN discount and the shipping will be free because of my membership. If you have a Nook it is 11.99
The Dovekeepers which Charlene recommended earlier will be coming out soon in paperback. It will be 14.99 (or 11.99 on the Nook). The issue date is April 3.
Four books have been recommended since our meeting:
Bob and Lee Woodruff's book on his injuries while in Iraq for ABC, In An Instant and also Lee Woodruff's book on her life as mother, wife, etc, Perfectly Imperfect. Both were recommended by Ike Frazier. She was very enthusiastic in suggesting them.
Gray Matter which concerns a neurosurgeon who regularly prays with his patients and the results of that was recommended by Louise Painter. I have just started reading it -- looks good.
I just finished Warrior Woman by James Alexander Thom and Rain Thom. It is about a Shawnee Woman Indian Chief in the late 1700's who becomes a Christian and a "peacemaker". The struggle she faces between her faith as a Christian and the traditions she must lead as a chief of her tribe make good reading. There is a lot of history concerning the white settlement of the Ohio River and Mississippi River areas as well.
